Excavator Operator/Back Filler

We are searching for excavator operators with experience around underground utility work. Our fleet of equipment at Metro Construction is the best of its class in this industry. Our goal is to have all employees home with their family each night. Most job sites are located within 30 miles of Sioux Falls giving our employees the ability to go home every night.

Roles and Responsibilities an Excavator Operator Include:

  • Efficiently and accurately digging trenches for the installation of sewer and water mainlines and services
  • Highest expectation of solid quality work
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamlines work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality production
  • Visually inspect work areas to ensure that the work can efficiently and safely be completed
  • Lifting and setting trench boxes
  • Bulk excavation and truck loading
  • Completing all tasks safely
  • Communicating with the foreman and pipe layer

Basic Qualifications

  • General knowledge of underground utility work including materials, methods, and tools involved in the installation
  • Able to maintain equipment in proper operating condition by performing tasks such as lubricating equipment.
  • Great at communicating
  • Ability to work extended hours during the construction season
